Paul and I started Schipperfabrik in September 2001 with German leiderschutzmaskes and insignia and built it from there. We worked at night filling orders after working our day jobs. Our stock was so little that we kept it in one room in our basement. Our office was half of our bedroom and our packing space was our dining room table.
In July 2004, the business had grown so much that I quit my full time job to concentrate on the business. We had moved from St. Louis to Clearwater, Florida and moved the business from our basement to the garage. Our spare bedroom became our office and the dining room was still our packing area. Over the years, we grew our stock and started offering clothing and equipment. People were so happy when we started offering more stuff. Most were just excited to be able to have options on where to shop. In 2008, we outgrew our garage and moved the store to a very scary location in Clearwater, FL with cheap rent. Then we received orders to Nashville, TN in 2010 and moved the shop into it's own storefront. We kept large amounts of stock on hand and kept adding to our inventory. We were so busy that we could hardly keep up and then we had to hire people to help.
Despite ebbs and flows and ever increasing market competition, we have hung in there. We have done our best to offer what we consider to be the best clothing and equipment out there. However after all of these years times have changed and it is time for us to enter a new phase of life. That is why we are excited to announce that we have sold our WWI line to Man the Line Militaria. Luke will be more than happy to service your WWI needs.
This business, to us, was never about making money. We were the only reenactor owned reenacting clothing company out there. Our joy has always come from providing the best possible clothing, equipment, and insignia at reasonable prices.
We want to thank everyone for your continued support over the years. It means the world to us. While we are looking forward to starting a new chapter in our lives, Paul and I will still be around. So if you see us at an event, please come and say Hi. We look forward to chatting!
